Why Obama Inspires me.

Published by Sarah under Uncategorized Edit This

I figure this is the next logical posting I should do.  After all, it is in the title of this blog.  As I’ve been in the process of making updates and figuring out how to do things, I read my about page again.  I realized that I stated that Mr. Obama has inspired me to create this blog and to help him effect change, but, I never mentioned exactly what it is about him that inspires me.  Here goes.

I know it sounds so cliche, but, I really do believe in his “Hope and Change” message.  I believe the Republicans and neo-cons took this country in the wrong direction and it is time for change.  I believe Mr. Obama is that person who can make the right changes and reverse the course.

Mr. Obama has an oratory gift.  He is very eloquent when he speaks and he says what he means.  I know there was a lot of hoopla close to the election with that whole Joe the Plumber thing.  But, I agreed with what Mr. Obama said to Joe the Plumber.  The neo-cons and right wing media tried to play the “gotcha” card, but, it backfired.  Mr. Obama stood by his statements in the last debate.  While those guys were calling it wealth redistribution, Mr. Obama called it what it was - a tax on the rich to benefit the poor and working class.

This leads to my third point - Integrity.  When Obama speaks, people listen.  The reason people are listening is because of his integrity.  When the right wing attack machine really got the gears going, Mr. Obama never stooped to their level.  He never personally attacked Mr. McCain.  I don’t consider any of his comments about Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh to be below the belt.  They attacked him, and, in the manner that only Mr. Obama can do, put them in their places.  Even when they tried to link him with that ACORN scandal and with Bill Ayers - Obama’s stood his ground.  He didn’t let them bring him down to their level.  He presented the facts and let the facts stand for themselves.  When you have integrity such as his, you don’t need to try to prop yourself up.  You let your actions and history speak for itself.

His respect for others is a big bonus for me.  While he admitted that he believes that marriage should be between a man and woman only (which is my stance as well) he also has great respect for our LBGT community.  He openly opposed Proposition 8 in California.  He says he will not stand in front of any actions that would discriminate against others as such propositions do.  Mr. Obama has shown that he will not let his personal feelings and belief rule the way he governs.  Likewise, his pro-abortion stance proves that he values the rights of women to make choices about their own bodies.  It should never be up to the government to decide for a woman, or men for that matter, how they conduct themselves and make decisions that concern only them.

He is an inspiration for the entire world.  After his visit to Berlin, there was great support from all around the world for him to be the next President.  The rest of the world recognizes that America was a great country at one time.  They also recognize that Mr. Obama is the person to restore America to its greatness once again.  I believe that too.  The last 8 years was a disaster for our reputation around the world.  I won’t even get in to the illegal war and illegal detention of foreignors at Guantanamo Bay.  I have confidence that Mr. Obama will do the right thing and end this war in Iraq immediately and will force the military to let those prisoners have their day in court.

Barack Obama has shown that he can be a family man and the leader of this country at the same time.  He campaigned for nearly two years - yet - he always seemed to find time for his wife and kids.  I really respect any man who supports and engages with his family.  Likewise, he is very proud of the accomplishments of Michelle and has openly said so.  Mr. Obama is the epitome of what a real man should be.

I believe Barack Obama when he says he is for the working and middle-class.  I don’t care that he is a Harvard Graduate with a Law degree and has made millions from his books.  He has proven that anyone from a middle-class upbringing can be successful.  He was in the middle-class, so he knows what it’s like.  When he says he’s going to lower our taxes and raise them on the rich, I believe him.  I only hope that is one of the first things he does (right after ending this illegal war).  I know he has time to do it.  I believe he just has to have legislation signed by 12/31 in order for it to be effective for that year and for the following April filing deadline.  He will have about a year to push it through - but - since this was one of his main campaign platforms - this is one I hope he gets done right away.

I know this is getting long - maybe I’ll break it up into another post because there is just so much to like about him.  My last one for today is this - He really cares about the environment and has put together proposals that will help to ensure we slow down global warming and at the same time produce more jobs for the economy.  This country is one of the largest abusers of our environment and those neo-cons want to destroy Mother Gaia even more.  I hope when Mr. Obama gets in he pushes Congress to reverse that horrible decision to allow oil companies to drill in the outer continental shelf.  Rather than drill for oil, we can be energy independent through alternative means.  Mr. Obama is committed to providing government support for improving green technnology.

These are just a few of my reasons that President-Elect Obama inspires me.  I have more, but, I will save those for another post.

Do you agree with what I have said?  What is it about Barack Obama that inspires you?  What can you do to help him?

Thank You,

Sarah

Happy Thanksgiving!

Published by Sarah under Uncategorized Edit This

Just wanted to stop out here real quick to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving!

happy-thanksgiving.jpg

You’ll also notice I’ve added a few things to my sidebar.  I’m working on it.  I signed up for sitemeter to keep track of the number of my visitors and I also signed up for feedburner so that you guys can subscribe either by e-mail or the rss feed.

I’ve gotten a few other tips from the neo-con hubby - so - I’ll be adding some more stuff at later dates.  I guess the best way to build these blogs is to network and join all those social type sites.

Also - just wanted to add a couple “thankfuls” for today.

I am most thankful that we will have a President for the people for at least the next 4 years!

I am very thankful for my husband and my wonderful daughter.

I am thankful for the bounties that God has given us all.

What are you thankful for?

EntreCard and dropping

Published by Sarah under Uncategorized Edit This

I know this doesn’t really have anything to do with my blog (or maybe it does) but as you can see I have that entrecard widget thing over there on the left side.  I wish I could take credit for creating the image but my old man plugged his nose and made it for me.

I started doing my “dropping” last night and all I can say is - how the heck do you guys do it?  I probably only got a little over 100 last night after close to 2 hours before I finally had to give up.

I really like entrecard because I got to see some great blogs as I was doing it.  But, if I stopped to comment on all the blogs I liked, I don’t think I would even have made it to 100+.  We have that toolbar downloaded and it did make it somewhat easy, but, I don’t see how anyone ever makes it to 300.

If any of you visitors also use entrecard, do you do 300 drops?  If so, how long does it take you?  Do you actually stop and visit the blogs you drop on?

Anyway, like I said, it doesn’t have anything to do with my actual blog topic, but - I just needed to know.  I would ask “him” but I’m trying to do this as much on my own as possible.  Besides, I don’t even think he does 300 - or at least - if he does I’m sure he’s not sharing the “secret.”

Socialism isn’t all that bad is it?

Published by Sarah under Uncategorized Edit This

Hi everyone.  This is my first blog and my first blog posting ever - so - if you haven’t already done so, you can read about me by clicking on that about tab up there.  My hubby calls me a “noob” which I guess means newbie or something like that.  I figured I would do my first posting about something that is on the lips of every neo-con out there when they talk about Obama - Socialism!

It has been said that you are only as strong as your weakest link.  Likewise, the strength of a nation can be measured by how it treats the least advantaged among them.  I don’t really know a whole lot about the whole governmental structure regarding “socialism.”  But, what I do know is that it involves more government involvement in helping to make sure the poor and least advantaged are taken care of.

Obama has said that he wants to insure everyone in this nation or to at least make sure everyone has access to healthcare.  Those neo-cons call it Universal Health Care.  I have read the stories about the Cuban, English, and Canadian Health systems and from what I understand - it really is not as bad as those guys on the right are trying to make it out to be.

I saw Sicko by Michael Moore.  It was a very compelling look at our free-market healthcare system compared to Cuba’s health care system.  While I do admit that there could be problems with elective surgeries or other elective procedures in those other countries - the fact of the matter is that EVERYONE at least has access to the most basic of preventative medical services.  Preventative care is the key to keeping a nation healthy.  I for one am willing to pay more in taxes if it means making sure our poor, working poor, and those who can’t afford health insurance are ensured access to preventative health care.  If this is considered socialism - then I’m all for it.

It seems to me that our free-market health system only benefits the rich, the health care providers, the health insurance companies, and the pharmacy companies.  Sure, we have Medicare and Medicaid - but that only takes care of a select few individuals.  I like Obama’s plan to either make employers offer health insurance to all employees or have a government plan to make sure everyone has access to health care.

Likewise, Obama wants to raise taxes on the rich and give it back to the middle-class.  Again, I am all for that.  The middle-class is considered the backbone of this country.  The middle-class does the majority of the work and spends the majority of the money.  I’ve heard about “trickle-down economics” in that when the rich get richer the money and prosperity trickles down.  Well - what we are seeing now is that “trickle-down” also works when the rich get greedy.  Their greed and decisions has now trickled down to the poor and middle class.  We can’t get the credit we need.  Small businesses are struggling because they can’t get the lines of credit any longer to stay afloat.  The middle-class are getting laid off everywhere because businesses are struggling because the rich took theirs and ran and left the rest of us holding the bag.  If taking money from them to give back to us is considered socialism, then I am all for that as well.  When the middle-class have more money to save or spend - it benefits the economy since we do all the shopping and buying.

I think I’ve said enough for my first posting.  I have a tendency to just ramble on if I don’t stop myself.  So, if you agree with me, I would appreciate it if you would stop by and leave a comment saying so.  If you disagree with me, like my neo-con hubby (LOL), you can leave a comment too - but - please go easy on me - I’m still learning!

Also, if you want to give me a few tips about how to grow this thing, please let me know that too.

Thank you,

Sarah
