Obama’s transparency - you know this is driving those neo-cons crazy!

Published by Sarah at 7:39 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Every time I read something new about Obama opening up more of the Bush files, it brings a smile to my face just knowing it drives those “other” guys crazy.  I found this story today -

Obama orders review of Bush legal maneuvers

Last week Obama released all the details concerning the torture at GITMO and we learned that there were over 90 videotaped interrogations that were destroyed. This latest report details how Obama is having some high level executive branch officials review all of Bush’s signing statements that he used to get around laws and all signing orders will be brought for review by Eric Holder.

I’m sure there will be a lot more news coming out about these signing statements that I am absolutely sure will prove that Bush circumvented the constitution.  I’m sure there are some neo-cons out there right now quivering and shaking with anger.  Obama is living up to his promise of transparency in government.  This is a much refreshing change compared to the iron-fisted rule of BusHitler.

Thanks,

Sarah

    Yeah Sarah,
Notice, that when he disovers the evidence he does not talk about prosecution? hmmm

Hi dsent - not sure what you’re getting at there. Care to elaborate please? My understanding of the way presidential etiquette and protocols work is that the incoming presidents are not supposed to bring action against past presidents. If I think I understand what you are eluding to - that would be the job of Congress to bring up charges. Obama is doing his part by bringing it all to light without making judgement.

Sarah I love you, you are so damn sweet.
But etiquette is not at the stake. Our Constitution is at the stake. The Bush administration committed war crimes, crimes against humanity and subverted our own domestic law and constitution. The recent memos reveal that clearly. These are not minor crimes they are high crimes. The President is responsible for upholding the law, no need for etiquette, he should command the Just-is Department to do their job as regards the evidence. The recent memos show how the Executive circumvented the law and laid the foundations for a police state. This is VERY SERIOUS shit. It is incumbent on Obama to hold the previous administration accountable for their flagrant violations of the law. For him to not act is to be an accessory after the fact and to protect war criminals.
Amy Goodman regularly covers this kind of stuff and more, today was about women’s day, one can learn more from her show in a week than in a year of network news coverage. www.democracynow.org she really is worth a daily listen.
    Respect Sarah,
    Dsent

You could also log onto democrats.com (the aggressive progressives - I love that slogan) and sign a petition to have a special investigator go over the war crimes by the Bush administration so that Obama doesn’t have to take time out of his assuredly busy days dealing with this issue. The petition is grabbing a lot of support actually, but more are always needed.

    Cheers!

http://www.democrats.com/special-prosecutor-for-bush-war-crimes - there’s a clickable link. They have a lot of other issues on here that you can voice your support for - ending drilling in Alaska, legalization of marry-yo-mama, no bailouts for bankers etc…

LOL, skwguitar, Right on, I know Obama is busy… But with a Special prosecutor he could stay on task with the economy and still be seen as defending the constitution and showing some respect for internatioal law… A Special prosecutor would just be damned convienent. But I think he is concerned he will be held to the same standard. ;)

    Thanks dsent! ;) I think.

But, just me thinking here - considering all the democrats actually approved and gave Bush the authority - if they attempt to prosecute GWB - wouldn’t they also have to be prosecuted for their actions as well? Considering they had control of Congress since 2006 - I’m so fed up with their crap also. They had the power to shut down that illegal war, stop the warrantless wiretaps, and they could have not reinstated the patriot act. Seems to me any prosecution of Bush also means they are guilty.

    Sarah,
Beautiful point. We have a government loaded with war criminals. It’s time for a good house cleaning. (and yes it was a compliment not sarcasm)

Thanks dsent - I didn’t take it as sarcasm. I agree - we need to just dump all those people in D.C. - they are the reasons we’re in this mess. I know I didn’t approve of it.

Bobo, Obama didn’t triple the debt. What news channel did you get that on? The cost of digging out included having to make some tough choices. The earmarks offered written into a bill that is designed to run the Government, all the politicians were guilty of that. An eleventh hour veto would have shut down services. There is no line item veto. I have an idea. All bills should only be one subject, everything must pass on its own merits, none of this sliding stuff in to get it through. Is that a conservative idea?

I’ll third the one-at-a-time approach, I called for it in a post a while back. There’s really no reason why we should ever have bills as large as the stimulus bill was.
